Bunny Chow – Know thyself follows the sometimes ridiculous weekend journey of four dysfunctional stand-up comedians who embark on a road-trip to Oppikoppi – the four set out to perform stand-up but get much more than they bargained for. Like its setting and the cultures it depicts, it’s an edgy. Thought provoking, funny and often uncomfortable movie. Already heaped in accolades from the Toronto Film Festival, Rotterdam and our own Sithengi (were it walked away with Best Actor and Best New Director), it’s sure to get lots of notice locally and internationally.
Like the movie, the music featured in it, is edgy and in a way is the best new SA urban music from the last 6 years (the period in which the film was being conceptualized and shot). With chart-toppers MXO alongside Watkin Tudor Jones (and his alias Max Normal) and The Rudimentals, hip-hop and dub are the style sure to get many urban parties started. Louis Mhlanga, Louis Prima and the a cappella Dr. Badela represent the established or future classics of this album.
Music plays a major role in the pace and feel of this film and has already raised awareness and created demand for this CD and digital release based on its few film festival screenings.
The first single and featured song is by newcomers Junior Musicians Yacht Club with the party friendly “The Beat Track” - already playlisted on 5fm, UJFM and Good Hope FM – expect further support from TUKS FM and Yfm in coming weeks, . . .
